Markha Valley Trek Ladakh

Markha Valley trek or Trek to Markha Valley is a very popular trek among trekkers allover the world. It is one of the most frequented and popular trek in Ladakh passing over 3 high passes and many villages. The trek offers most enchanting view of Ladakh Himalayas. High altitude pastures of Nimaling in the fore ground of Mt. Kang Yatse is campers delight. Activities: A moderately strenuous and exiting trek for adventurous soul which offers everything in a single trek which any trekker would like to experience.

Day 01: Arrive Delhi
Welcome to India- a country where hospitality is a way of life; to a culture steeped in tradition, a land where history lives in music and dance. You will be received at the airport in a traditional manner with garlands and proceed to your hotel for overnight stay.

Day 02: Delhi - Leh
Morning after an early breakfast transfer to domestic airport to board one of the most spectuclar Trans- Himalayan flight to Leh. Welcome on arrival at Leh airport (3500 mt) and transfer to hotel. Rest of the day free for high altitude acclimatization. In the afternoon proceed to visit Sankar Gompa, Shanti Stupa and later drop at the main Bazaar and walk down to the hotel.

Day 03: Leh
Morning after breakfast proceed for sightseeing tour of Hemis, Shey and Thiksey monasteries.

HEMIS: Hemis Monastery simply conjures up an image of magnificent snow covered peaks, alpine green valleys and high altitude passes. It reflects the Buddhist culture and living life in harmony among such harsh climatic conditions of Ladakh. There are a number of shrines around this great courtyard, all of them of considerable interest.

SHEY: On the main road up the Indus, about 14 Km from Leh, was the ancient capital of Ladakh. The monastery has a huge copper-giltimage of Sakyamuni and the large silver lamp burning in front of the statue. Other feature of this monastery is the fine wall paintings and murals. Though it bears the brunt of everlasting flame of butter lamps.

THIKSEY is one of the largest Gompa of Central Ladakh..The Monastery is actually a complex of buildings on a crag rising in tire upon tier above the village. The temple was dedicated by His Holiness Dalai in 1980 and houses an immense image of Maitreya in an unusual manifestation known as Chon-kor. Later on drive back to the hotel for overnight stay

Day 04: Leh - Marteslang – Chokdo
We leave the Indus valley and head south. We will drive up to Marteslang nand the start first day trek to reach Chokdo (4050 Mt).We progress along the river whose banks are punctuated with ochre rocks. Arrive and set the Camp for overnight.

Day 05: Chokdo - Kangmarula Base
Start trek to After crossing narrow gorges, we start our ascension towards the Kongmaru La (5210 mt). Arrive and set the Camp for overnight

Day 06: Kangmarula Base - Nimaling
From the pass, there are great views north towards eastern Korakoram and China, whilst the southern view is dominated by the shapely Kang Yatze (6400m) and the Ladakhi range. We take a ridge trail and descend zigzagging across scree. Afterwards, the path meets the Nimaling summer pastures, used by Hankar and Markha shepherds. Arrive Nimaling (4268 mt)and set the Camp for overnight.

Day 07: Nimaling - Markha
We steadily descend through meadows to Thachutse and cross the Nimaling river. The trail follows the Markha river now, and will do so for the next few days. Several monasteries and ruins are scattered along the trail to Markha. After Umlung the valley narrows and becomes a gorge just before Markha. This large village has a fort and a monastery perched on the northern hill. The gompa is reputed to be one of the oldest in Ladakh. Arrive Markha (3650 mt)and set the Camp for overnight Arrive and set the Camp for overnight.

Day 08: Markha – Chalok - Skiu
The trail passes through quite lush riverside vegetation. En route, we come across more derelict monasteries, some well maintained shortens and at least one good example of a wolf trap. Wolves become a nuisance during the winter as hunger forces them into the villages. Arrive Skiu (3600mt) and set the Camp for overnight.

Day 09: Skiu - Shingo
We criss-cross the Markha river and cross it on bridges set at many of the most difficult crossing places. From a tiny group of stupas, we leave the valley and continue upwards along a river bounded by willows and wild rosebushes. Arrive Shingo (3450 mt) and set the camp for overnight stay.

Day 10: Shingo - Ganda La - Rumbek
Today we start our steep ascent of 4 to 5 km to Ganda La (4920 m). At the pass, colorful prayer flags flap in the wind, with the Zanskari range in the background. Afterwards, we descend steadily along the Jingchan river. We get great views towards the Stock summit and the Stock Kangri (6121m). Set the camp on arrival for overnight stay.

Day 11: Rumbek - Stok La - Manikarmo
Ascending from the Rumbak village till the Stok La (4900m) the pass, we enjoy excellent views towards the Indus valley. Arrive Leh and check it to the hotel for overnight stay.

Day 12: Manikarmo - Stok - Leh
Trek down to reach Stok Village which is ending point of the trek.Upon arrival proceed to visit Stok Palace and Museum.Later on drive down to reach Leh.On arrival check in at hotel for overnight stay.

Day 13: Leh
Day at leisure for independent activities.

Day 14: Leh – Delhi
Morning after breakfaast transfer to airport to board flight for Delhi. On arrival transfer to hotel. Rest till lunch time.Afternoon proceed for sightseeing tour of New Delhi. Visit Raj Ghat (the place where Father of Nation Mahatama Gandhi was cremated on his assisnation. An eternal flame burns their where visiting dignitaries pay's his respect), Red Fort (From Mughal India, the chief attraction is the hugh fort that contains palaces and impressive public buildings such as Diwan-i-Am, Diwan-i-Khas, Rang Mahal, Pearl Mosque and Lahore Gate), Jama Masjid (an architectural extravaganza of Shah Jehan. one of the largest mosques, still used for house of worship for Muslims).Overnight stay in hotel.

Day 15: Depart Delhi
Check-out from the hotel at noon. Day at leisure for shopping and exploring the city on your own. Check-out from the hotel at noon. Later in the evening departure transfer to International airport to board Flight for onward destination.
